On Brilliant Lady, sculpture and installation became tools for transformation—works that reshape how guests, or sailors as Virgin Voyages calls them, move through space, and engineered as experiences. Over 15 sculptural works were designed, fabricated in multiple countries, and installed in Genoa’s shipyard, expanding Virgin’s narrative into form, light, and material. These installations bring form, texture, and dimension into spaces where sailors gather, relax, and play, creating unexpected encounters with art.
SCULPTURES & INSTALLATIONS — FORM IN MOTION
These sculptural commissions reflect the curatorial aim to create works that resonate across scales — monumental outdoors, immersive within public spaces, and quietly transformative in more intimate settings. Gale Hart’s exterior sculptures, built from reclaimed metal and painted in bold, expressive colors, draw from her long-standing practice of turning industrial materials into symbols of humanity and resilience. Inside, Jacob Burmood’s fluid resin sculptures finished in metallic tones for The Wake extend Virgin’s narrative of connection through abstract, organic forms that seem to ripple like liquid metal. In the Atrium, HYBYCOZO’s mirrored geometric lanterns transform mathematics and light into immersive constellations, projecting intricate patterns that animate the surrounding space.
Volume Creative contributed a series of large sculptural works: the rounded “Minions,” the twisting “Tentacles,” and the dynamic “Mermaid Tail.” Originally finished in white, these forms were commissioned to be hand-painted on site. Their playful presence animates high-traffic spaces and reinforces Virgin’s philosophy for Brilliant Lady of blending art with experience.
