The Brilliant Lady is Virgin Voyages’ fourth —and largest—ship of the fleet, with the most ambitious art program with dozens of commissioned works spanning over 25,000 square feet across both public and private spaces. Its curatorial vision began with the mermaid herself, a muse embodying curiosity, intelligence, and radiant exploration. From that inspiration grew a program of murals, sculptures and wallworks curated to create an experience that feels alive, layered, and deeply tied to the sea, becoming signature moments of storytelling throughout the ship.
GRAND GESTURES — MURALS, & WALLWORKS INSTALLATIONS
Whether is murals, sculptures or installations, they were all intended to bring the raw energy of street art with a sense of refinement, balancing grittiness with moments of elegance. Among the most striking gestures at this scale are the murals commissioned across Brilliant Lady. Isaac Malakkai murals shapes atmospheres with his bold figurative style, blending intimacy with daring energy to multiple locations, including the thematic restaurant Pink Agave. In the Athletic Club, Noah Cook reimagined the mermaid muse across hundreds of feet, layering treasures of the sea into a vibrant narrative that connects sailors with the ocean itself. For his part, Hoxxoh filled the basketball courts with dynamic patterns exploring the passage of time through gestural abstraction.
But murals weren’t the only works to command scale. At the Social Club, Alex Yanes created a wall-mounted sculptural installation blending Miami pop heritage, that shifts between mural and object.
“THERE ARE MANY PROCESSES THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF TO GET A CONCEPT THROUGH TO EXECUTION AND WHEN I THINK ABOUT WHAT'S INVOLVED WITH CREATING THE ARTWORK PACKAGE IT REALLY IS SUCH A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. IT ALMOST BECOMES THE JEWELRY ON TOP. SO THIS IS ONE ASPECT, THAT I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO.”
