At the heart of MercadoLibre’s Bogotá offices, a company often described as the Amazon of Latin America, a suspended installation transforms a triple-height staircase into a sculptural experience. Inspired by Bogotá’s iconic phrase “2,600 meters closer to the stars” the artwork is composed of 2,600 handcrafted pieces that symbolize elevation and aspiration, grounding the global brand in local identity.

A HANDCRAFTED, HANGING INSTALLATION
Created by a Colombian artist, the installation forms an abstract spiral. It’s built from recycled glass, aluminum, and bronze-toned components and softly lit at the core. The result feels fluid and weightless—moving as people move through the space. The piece evokes the motion, energy, and optimism that define MercadoLibre’s presence in Colombia.
The installation required complex technical logistics, including precise on-site measurements, protective structures, and more than 500 scaffolding components assembled in a triple-height space. Installed by hand over several days, the artwork now cascades gracefully through the building’s central staircase: an elegant intersection of design, craftsmanship, and engineering.
“COORDINATING THE ARTIST, THE TECHNICAL CONSTRAINTS, AND THE CLIENT VISION IN REAL TIME—AND IN SPANISH—WAS KEY TO KEEPING THE SOUL OF THE PROJECT INTACT.”
