DAN HOBDAY

A Minimalist Approach
Dan strives to work with minimal resources, keeping things simple no matter the medium. Working from his picturesque Devon studio, surrounded by England's stunning coastlines and rolling hills, Dan incorporates inks, acrylics, digital, and mixed media to create artwork that sparks change and facilitates connections.
Unexpected Details Speak Volumes
Headphones and cords woven into a project spanning 10 stories for Amazon's Manhattan office. Three-dimensional letter beads and daisy chains as a nod to summer camp. Colors that mirror a nearby mountain range. It's the little touches that add up to tell a bigger story behind the art.
Serene Colors and Organic Shapes
Dan's work speaks to an almost sensuousness within the natural world. Coastlines curve toward the distance as they bid viewers to come closer and explore. Trees sway while providing shade to travelers along a well-worn path. Flower petals arc and splay open invitingly across the canvas. No matter the setting or the subject, each piece feels balanced, peaceful, and calming.

The "Less is More" Movement
Dan's straightforward aesthetic — which he notes is inspired by Scandinavian design and artists like Ellsworth Kelly — is especially appealing at a time when people are actively seeking out ways to simplify their lives and adopt minimalist frameworks. Dan's artwork presents uncluttered spaces, soothing shapes, and neutral color palettes that speak directly to oft-overstimulated audiences.
