Amazon’s Art Engagement

Working in pasted paper and mixed media, the artist approaches collage as a form of visual editing—layering images like frames of film spliced together. Fragments of the past and present flicker across the surface, creating moments of pause within an otherwise accelerated, digital world. Through intuitive juxtapositions and quick visual “cuts,” the work echoes the material qualities of film itself—its texture, rhythm, and impermanence—inviting viewers to step into an alternate narrative and locate themselves within it. Rooted in a lifelong engagement with drawing, cinema, and visual culture, these collages reflect how the contemporary world is seen, remembered, and reassembled.

Russell C Smith is an experienced collage and mixed media artist with a deep appreciation for the magical properties of art. Drawing inspiration from every form of visual art, from the natural world to museums and galleries worldwide, he has exhibited his work at esteemed galleries including Treason Gallery, Dendroica Gallery, and Galerie Youn. Russell's collage art journey began in New York in 1982, inspired by the works of Kurt Schwitters, Picasso, and Joseph Cornell at the Museum of Modern Art.
