Amazon’s Art Engagement

Balancing sculptural presence with restraint, McDonald’s work bridges nature and design. The compositions feel both raw and refined—grounded in the honesty of natural wood while elevated through thoughtful proportion, rhythm, and craftsmanship. Installed on the wall, the sculptures read as both object and landscape, introducing warmth, depth, and a sense of calm into the surrounding space. His work invites closer observation and moments of pause, offering a tactile counterpoint to the built environment and fostering a connection to nature through material, form, and process.

Origins is an artistic studio based in Vancouver, British Columbia, led by designer and artist Deagan McDonald. Working primarily with solid wood, the studio explores the tactile qualities of surface and the subtle interplay of light and shadow.

McDonald holds a Master of Architecture from the John H. Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto and has worked with internationally recognized firms including KPMB Architects in Toronto, Kengo Kuma & Associates in Tokyo, and Michael Green Architecture in Vancouver.

Rooted in the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, the work reflects the region’s atmosphere and natural forms. Minimal in spirit yet visually impactful, the pieces maintain a quiet, grounded presence while commanding attention.

Each work balances digital precision with the intuition of handcraft, embracing the dialogue between technological processes and the organic character of the material.

About the Artwork

Canadian artist Deagan McDonald creates organic wood wall sculptures that celebrate the natural character and quiet strength of the material. Each piece is shaped by an intuitive process that honors the wood’s inherent grain, texture, and imperfections, allowing the material itself to guide the final form
